Provider FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Who qualifies?
If you are a CA licensed psychologist in good standing with the CA BOP and are willing to offer a reduced fee ($100 or less) or free psychotherapy to students currently enrolled in psychology graduate programs with a personal therapy requirement, we kindly encourage you to sign up to be a provider.
What information do I list in the database?
We are trying to keep the information listed in the directory to a minimum. We have selected basic categories to help students search for criteria based on their personal and academic requirements. Please complete as many sections as you can.
Do I need to verify if a student meets the requirement to access therapy?
That is entirely up to you. We are not asking that providers seek verification from students that they are currently in a psychology program with a mandated therapy requirement. We have asked students to proceed based on the honor system. However, if you would like to verify that a student is currently enrolled in a graduate psychology program with a mandated personal therapy requirement, please ask the student for the contact information of the individual or department to confirm their information. You may also consider asking the student to provide a letter.
What do I do once I agree to work with a student?
Yay! You are giving back to the profession, and we thank you! Please treat the student like anyone else coming into your practice. They should complete all necessary and required paperwork that you provide. CPA-F does not get involved beyond hosting the directory for providers. If at some point you would like to remove your information from the directory, please contact us at cpafoundation@cpapsych.org.
What are the benefits of being a provider?
Benefits include investing in the future of the profession, giving back to students in need, and serving as a role model. We are actively working with the CA-BOP in hopes of also offering CEU credits for your time. Once we have more information about this, it will be posted here on the website.
